What We Do
Copy Editing and
Formatting Services
Once we receive your manuscript in the form of a Word document (if you use Apple’s Pages to write your book, you can save it as a Word document), we will give it a full copy edit, which will encompass comprehensive proofreading, whilst making sure that the whole manuscript eradicates repetition, follows in a logical order and generally makes sense, in order to produce the best version of your book. We use the Track Changes tool in Word, so you can see what changes are suggested, which you can either agree with or not. At all times of the editing process, you will have control over any changes that are made. We like to keep true to the author’s vision, so we don’t make wholesale changes, but work in collaboration with you, the author.
Once the text in your manuscript has been agreed, we will then prepare the layout to your specifications, whilst using our many years of experience to make the finished book user-friendly and attractive to the reader. You can choose exactly how your book will look on the bookshelf by choosing the page size, font size and typeface, margins, chapter headings etc. to ensure a quality experience for the reader.
Cover Design
Simultaneously, we will design a bespoke cover (front, back and spine) to your own specifications. You may have a clear idea of how you want your cover to look, or you may only have a vague idea. Either way, our professional cover designer will work with you to produce an eye-catching cover that will stand out on the bookshelf. You can view a selection of cover designs here.
Book Distribution
Once we have completed making your print-ready manuscript, including the internal layout of the text and your personal, bespoke cover, you are free to take it to any printer and distributor for the next stage of the publishing process. However, we have a partnership with London-based New Generation Publishing, who offer a number of packages to take your book to the next stage, including printing, distributing and marketing. Their Standard Publishing Package costs just £559, which provides you with everything to make you a published author, including providing you with an ISBN, global distribution and paperback publication.
A very useful package is their Bespoke Publishing Package, which allows you to pick and mix the individual elements of post-production which suit your book’s needs, including options such as distribution, marketing, hardback production, etc. With this package, you only need to pay for the elements that you choose for your book’s requirements.
If you decide to use New Generation Publishing, we will ensure that one of their senior representatives will personally phone you to discuss your book and ensure that you are furnished with the most appropriate package to suit your needs.
Self-Publishing Solutions has a zero-tolerance policy on racism, sexism and any other inflammatory material. The copy editor or cover designer reserve the right to decline a manuscript if they are not comfortable with the content submitted. We also will not work directly with anyone who is under 18 years-old.
